Some of you may be familiar with music therapy already. For those who are not, AMTA defines music therapy as:
“[The] clinical and evidence-based use of music interventions to accomplish individualized goals within a therapeutic relationship by a credentialed professional who has completed an approved music therapy program” (2005).
Music Therapy Sessions:
The Music Initiative provides music therapy services and resources for children, adults, and parents who are looking for a unique and engaging way to support developmental, social, cognitive, and communication needs.
Please contact us at 530.228.3483 or via email at Erin@themusicinitiative.net to schedule a free consultation, initial assessment, and/or individual sessions.
The Music Initiative: Children with Special Needs is a digital book containing music activities for kids with special needs. The Music Initiative Guidebook Series are based on the tenets of music therapy as defined by the American Music Therapy Association (AMTA).
Not a comprehensive, clinical approach, The Music Initiative Series are guides to assist in bringing music therapy-based activities to individuals who may not have a musical background or access to music and music therapy.
The guides are designed to present a basic experience with music and music therapy-based activities. More advanced techniques, (neurologic music therapy, melodic intonation, gait training, rehabilitative music therapy, iso principle techniques—other than relaxation at home—and pain relief) should only be undertaken with trained and board certified music therapists.
For those interested in a more clinical approach to using these techniques with your child(ren), consultation and/or assessment, please contact me via email at Erin@themusicinitiative.net, or on the contact page on this website.
